Hey, I'm Maria

Project manager. Parent. An expat based in Porto, Portugal.

A few years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually unfolded into a new chapter of life overseas.

Its Beginning

Moving to Portugal wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.

The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and different expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than expected.

The Adjustment Phase

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning by doing. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.

Why I Created FoltavRenocyl

Most online information was either relocation guidance at a corporate level or shallow tourism content. Missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.

This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Portugal.

Purpose of This Site (What It Is and Isn't)

This site is:

  • Practical know-how from living in Portugal
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated when something meaningful changes

This site isn't:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • A sponsored review platform
  • A generic travel blog

What Lies Ahead

Our time in Portugal continues, and the learning process goes on. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we uncover.

If you have questions about family life in Porto or anywhere in Portugal, please feel free to get in touch.

Best regards,

Maria
